Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have announced that students must present valid identification documents to vote in the upcoming JU Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and Hall Students’ Union elections.
The directive came following the recommendations of the JUCSU Election Commission-2025 and was approved by the university administration. Acting Registrar A B M Azizur Rahman issued the notification on Sunday morning.
According to the notice, only regular and registered students will be eligible to vote. To receive a ballot paper, each voter must show a valid identity document. Acceptable documents include a university-issued photo ID card, a photo-attested library card signed by the hall provost, or a hall index card also signed by the provost.
Students who have not yet collected any of these documents have been urged to obtain them from the concerned authorities well before election day.
The university has made the decision to ensure a smooth and transparent election process. The identification requirement aims to prevent fraud and ensure that only eligible students cast their votes.
Earlier, on June 27, JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan declared September 11 as the tentative date for the JUCSU and Hall Students’ Union polls during a view exchange meeting with student representatives and student organization leaders.
This will be the first JUCSU election in years, and preparations are in full swing to conduct the polls fairly and efficiently. Students have been urged to complete all necessary formalities and stay updated through official university channels. The authorities hope the polls will be held in a festive and peaceful manner with active participation from the entire student community.
