The department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has developed a software named 'People's Government Open Data', which is made of artificial intelligence.
This app is said to be able to track those who spreads rumours on terrorism, militancy and violence on social media like Facebook and instigate, said officials of the ICT department.
According to the officials concerned, the ICT department is also in talks to enact a 'Data Protect Law' and once this law is enacted, it will be able to provide data security.
ICT department officials said, the ‘People's Government Open Data App’ has already started working effectively. It is also being able to filter contents. If anyone from any part of the country or abroad spreads rumours on terrorism, militancy or bizarre news can be instantly detected.
Besides, it is also providing solutions if someone complains to the government.
It should be mentioned that artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that attracts human intelligence and thinking power by computer. Besides, artificial intelligence has now become a field of academic learning, where how to create computers and software is also taught.
Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT, said artificial intelligence performs functions that are similar to other people's minds and are linked to problem solving, including learning.
The State Minister said that many problems are being solved through the artificial intelligence.
“Social media is a new reality in our modern life. Even the village people now do not read newspaper for information. The newspapers have been replaced by smartphones and iPhones,” said Palak.
The ICT State Minister said that almost 70 percent of the people worldwide who use internet are connected to the social media while 90 percent of the youths are used to the social media like facebook and youtube.
“In Bangladesh, more than 80 percent of the youths have facebook accounts. But, most of them can not understand which or what kind of posts are real or fake. Therefore, most of them believe in the fake news or rumours,” said Junaid Ahmed Palak.
He said, “Being influenced by the fake news or rumours many people, mainly youths, tend to get involved in terrorism, militancy.”
“In this circumstance, the 'People's Government Open Data' has been developed to save people from such kinds of risks. This app is able to solve problems related to propaganda, rumours or fake news,” he added.
Talking about the Data Protect Law, the ICT State Minister said that work is on to prepare the law. But it is now at the initial stage. Once it is enacted and comes into enforcement, it will hopefully be able to protect people from cyber crimes.
The ICT Department official sources said, “With the help of internet facilities, social communications among people have been increased many times compared to the past. However, this advantage is being abused or misused by various types of people. Some of them are trying to fish in troubled water taking this advantage.”
As per the later information, the total number of people who use youtube is 150 crore, while the number of whatsapp users is 120 crore, number of facebook messenger users is 120 crore, number of WeChat is about 94 crore.
