Valiant freedom fighter and International Crimes Tribunal Chief Investigator Abdul Hannan Khan died of coronavirus on Sunday at the age 78, reports BSS.
He breathed his last at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital at 12:45pm, Sanaul Huq, co-coordinator of ICT’s investigation agency, told the newsmen.
Hannan and all his family members tested positive on Thursday and he was admitted to the hospital on the same day.
Hannan Khan, also an investigative officer of the Bangabandhu murder case, survived by wife, two sons and a daughter and well- wishers and admirers to mourn his death.
Khan who had been suffering from fever since Thursday tested corona positive and then shifted to CMH. His physical condition improved in the last two days, but all of a sudden, his condition deteriorated on Sunday morning and then expired.
A month ago, he had been suffering from brain hemorrhage and was in rest at his own residence after being recovered from the illness.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock and sorrow at the death of valiant freedom fighter and chief coordinator of the investigation wing of the ICT.
In a message of condolence, the President recalled with due respect the significant role Hannan Khan performed with utmost dedication and efficiency as the chief coordinator of the investigation wing in various historic cases of the country.
He said, “Khan played an important role in the proceedings of different historic cases — specially Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murder, jail killings and war criminals trial cases — by collecting and presenting necessary evidences and documents .”
The head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her condolence message recalled with respect Abdul Hannan's sincerity and efficiency in discharging his duty as the chief coordinator in the investigations of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's killing case and the jail killing case.
Sheikh Hasina said he served with integrity and courage as the chief coordinator of the Investigation Agency of the ICT.
She prayed for the salvation of the departed soul of Hannan and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Abdul Hannan Khan following his retirement as Additional DIG of Police in January 12, 2011, was appointed coordinator of the International Crime Tribunal Investigative Agency with the rank and status of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Born in Khalisaur Khan Para of Purbodhala under Netrokona, Abdul Hannan Khan completed his MA in English and LLB degree from the University of Dhaka.
He participated in the language movement when he was a primary student. He was also president of Kishorganj sub-division student movement committee of Hamidur Rahman Education Commission Movement.
He was elected member in the Dhaka University Central Student Union (DUCSU) election in 1964.
After completion of education, he served Brahmanbaria college, Moulvibazar college and Nasirabad college in Mymensingh and Ashek Mahmud College in Jamalpur as professor.
In 1971, he participated in the liberation war at Dhalu sub-sector under sector 11. After the liberation war, he joined as ASP of the police department in the first batch of BCS in 1973.
In 1996, Hannan Khan got appointment as the chief investigative officer of the Bangabandhu murder case and got government nomination to bring back sacked Major Huda, a fugitive convicted killer, from Bangkok.
Hannan Khan also was probe supervision official of the Jail Killing case and the intellectuals killing case.
He was a coordinator of the International Crime Tribunal Investigative Agency till his death. He got appointment in 2011.
