Time to roar!

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is on the horizon as the cricket extravaganza will start from May 30 in England and Wales, with 10 participating teams. Today we will analyse the chances and potentials of Bangladesh in this year’s World Cup.
Led by skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Bangladesh will go in the 12th edition of World Cup since its inception in 1975 with confidence as they won their first ever multinational series final after six abortive attempts by beating West Indies in Ireland on Friday.
Heading into the World Cup, there were major questions over the level of contributions from the cricketers outside Bangladesh’s hallowed Big Five of Mashrafe Murtaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad.
There is also serious doubt about whether the batting department could match the scoring rates of English and Indian teams when the World Cup would be played on flat batting tracks. After the tri-series those doubts have been emphatically quashed, with brilliant performances from every member of the squad.

There was also a major concern about Tamim’s inconsistent opening partner, but contenders for that slot, Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das performed brilliantly in the tri-series, giving selectors a sweet headache. Soumya however, have the edge over Liton in that place.

When it comes to key players, Shakib and Tamim are the one whom the whole team will be relying on as they are undoubtedly the two big fish of the Tigers roster. In Shakib and Tamim, still the two most iconic cricketers in the country, Bangladesh boasts two of the leading ODI players in world cricket.
In all formats of the game, Shakib Al Hasan has achieved the all-rounder’s magic ratio of a comfortably higher batting average than bowling average, and has also made his mark across the globe.
Meanwhile, big-hitting opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has played such a key role in Bangladesh’s rise that it is hard to believe he only turned 30 in March. The left-handed batsman has excelled in all three formats of the international game, including hitting 45 half-centuries and passing 100 on eleven occasions in 188 ODI innings.
In World Cup history, Bangladesh have many significant wins against big teams. Tigers have beaten England in 2011 and 2015, while India and South Africa were among their scalps in the previous tournament before that. In more recent times, they reached the 2018 Asia Cup final.
Therefore, Tigers have proved time and time again they should not be undermined. Time has come for Bangladesh to announce themselves in cricket’s supreme stage. The squad Tigers have is the most balanced and best ever when it comes to Bangladesh’s World Cup history. If all the Tigers roar together, it is not impossible to achieve semifinals spot. If achieved, this would be a tremendous feat in Bangladesh’s cricketing legacy.
