Shakib Al Hasan, star cricketer and Awami League-nominated candidate for Magura-1 constituency, appeared in the Magura District and Sessions Judge Court on Friday and responded to the show-cause notice given by the elec
tion inquiry committee.
Shakib appeared in court at 3:45 pm on Friday and gave a written reply to the Joint District and Sessions Judge Satyabrata Shikder, who has been leading the Magura-1 election inquiry committee.
After coming out of the court, Shakib Al Hasan told journalists that “I am participating in the election for the first time. I’m new, so I don’t understand. Naturally, some mistakes may go unnoticed. Now I will read, know and learn the rules. It is my responsibility to correct them. I will take care not to make this mistake again in the future.”
Shakib Al Hasan’s lawyer, Advocate Sajidur Rahman Sangram, told journalists that “We have given a written reply. On the day of the incident, Shakib did not invite anyone to the reception, nor did the Awami League make any arrangements. Therefore, the code of conduct of the candidate has not been violated. Still the inquiry committee served show cause notice. We will also ensure that there are no violations of the Code of Conduct in the future.”
Earlier on Thursday, the head of the inquiry committee and joint district and session judge Satyabrata Shikder issued a show-cause notice on Shakib Al Hasan.
According to the letter, Shakib Al Hasan entered Magura town with a showdown in Kamarkhali area on his way to Magura from Dhaka on Wednesday marking his first appearance in Magura since receiving the AL nomination. He was given a public reception causing disruption to public movement.
In this, he has violated the provisions of Sections 6(d), 8(a), 10(a) and 12 of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections, 2008.
