I'm honoured to meet PM Modi: Shakib

Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he began his two-day visit to the country. “(I am) really honoured to meet the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modiji. I think his visit will be a fruitful one for both the countries and the leadership here shown for India is tremendous,” he said.

Shakib further expressed hope that the India-Bangladesh relationship gets better in the future. “There have been multiple tie-ups between India and Bangladesh and it’s growing over the time. I am hopeful and sure that this relationship will go a long way,” he added. 

Modi is now on a two-day visit to attend celebration of 50 years of Bangladesh’s liberation, India-Bangladesh diplomatic relationship and birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed the Indian premier at the VVIP terminal of HazratShahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 11:00am this morning. 

After arriving in Dhaka, Modi met Bangladeshi youths who achieved successes in various fields. Aside from Shakib, the Indian PM also met former Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, women cricketers Salma Khatun and JahanaraAlam, actress Jaya Ahsan, NusratFaria film director RedwanRony, musician Sharmin Sultana Sumi and a few others.
