Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said that Interim Waste Transfer Centers (STSs) will be set up in 75 wards within this year.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a newly constructed STS under the Mayor Mohammad Hanif flyover adjacent to the Sayedabad Rail Crossing on Thursday.

The DSCC mayor said, “I don’t want to see garbage everywhere on the city streets. Last year I took over as mayor and streamlined waste management activities. I have taken initiative to build one STS in each ward. Many STSs have already been inaugurated. I will finish the rest of the work within this year.”

"STS needs enough space, however, there is not that much space for city corporation. Therefore, the Dhaka district administration has been informed for special land. Other government agencies have also been asked to provide space”, he added.

The mayor said, “Home waste is collected and kept in this STS first which is later taken to Matuail Landfill. This diminishes the chances of spreading waste in the streets.”

Dhaka-6 MP Kazi Firoz Rashid and DSCC Ward No. 40 Councilor Abul Kalam Azad Mintu also spoke on the occasion.
