Drishyam 2 actor Shriya Saran tells us how she doesn’t care about social media trolls when it comes to PDA with her husband on red carpet.
After a blockbuster hit with RRR,Shriya Saran is currently basking in the glory of Drishyam 2 which also stars Ajay Devgn in the lead. Ending the dry spell with more than ₹150-crores at the box office, Saran is elated with the success.
One of the few actors who juggles well between Bollywood and the South, talks about the sudden shift in the industry where a lot of Bollywood stars are heading south.
“The lines have merged now”, says Saran adding, “One good thing that happened with Covid-19 was people had a lot of time to consume new content. And, then it did not matter what language is good. And, eventually, you realise there is no point you confine to one language because honestly, it does not matter. The subject is what matters and people are now willing to experiment.”
Ask if movies should directly hit the theatres or whether filmmakers should opt for OTT, Saran says, “A movie like Drishyam 2 needed to be watched on the big screen. Cinema also connects people on different level. They come together and watch the movie as one. For those two or three hours, the theatre unites people which I feel is beautiful.”
The 40-year-old also opines on whether movies should be released on OTT after a month or so after a theatrical release. The actor asserts, “This is for the bigger people to decide. As a creative person, I feel there is a certain kind of cinema that is made for OTT. The kind of stories you tell are different on streaming platforms.”
After the mega success of Drishyam 2, Saran is hopeful that she would get to do more projects in Bollywood. “I just hope something nice comes my way. I would love to work in my mother tongue but I am partial towards both Bollywood and South cinema. I have grown up learning Hindi and I have grown up getting a lot of love from South. I have learned cinema in South and the language I speak is Hindi.”
On whether fans will get to see Drishyam 3 or not, Saran reveals, “I honestly would not know about it. (Director) Abhishek (Pathak) would know better. I don’t know how are they going to go about it.
Will they release it together or whether they will re-write it.”
On the personal front too, Saran has been making a lot of headlines. The actor recently got trolled after she on several occasions was papped showing PDA with her husband Andrei Koscheev on red carpet.
Prod her on this and the actor shares the trick to deal with negativity: It is very innocent, I don’t know if I have hurt some people, then I am sorry. If I haven’t (hurt them) and made others happy, then I am happy. I don’t read trolls at all. I really don’t.”
