‘Maya-The Lost Mother’ has been released. How are viewers responding?

Even though there are many films often there isn’t the opportunity to do good work. Masud Pathik, the director of the film has given me that opportunity. That’s why I was able to act out my character well. From the first day of its release, the film has had a good response. On the day of its release, I attended the premiere show of the film at the Balaka Cineworld in the capital. Visitors there responded very positively to the film.

Why should the audience see the film?

A film can be made out of a painting and a poem, this idea is remarkable. Many thought that this would be boring or something. But it’s not. In this film, a woman, war child, village and city has been beautifully portrayed by the director. This is why the audience is watching the film.

Here your character is named ‘Maya’. How was the story of becoming Maya from Jyotika?

Whether in drama or film, I always try to go deeper into the character. Due to requirements of the Maya character I did not use any product for my hair for 15 to 20 days. I tried to be as similar the as the daughter of a farmer. The Maya of this film does everything from household chores, to farming. The scene was filmed at Narshingdi’s Raipura. I became really close with the people of the house where we shot the film. I collected old saris from the girls of the village. I’ve acted without makeup.

You never did farm work in reality. Did you have difficulty in doing so for the sake of acting?

I always like to do experimental work. I’ve never acted in such a role before. I grew up in the village. The characters of this film are known to me. As a result, I didn’t have that much trouble to act.

The new year is knocking at the door. How do you wish to see yourself?

The year 2019 was really joyous for me because I made my debut in Kolkata this year. Also, ‘Maya-the Lost Mother’ starring me has been released as the last film to be released of the year. As a result, I am optimistic about 2020. What I could not do this year, I will do it next year - I am still bearing this thought in my mind.
