A Dhaka court here on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing his four-month pregnant wife for dowry in capital’s Badda area.
Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Khadem Ul Qayes passed the order in presence of the convict Saidur Rahman alias Milton.
The court also fined him Taka 50 thousand, in default, to suffer three
months more in jail.
According to the case statement, Milton married Sharmin Sultana Hia in 2004. He demanded Taka five lakh as dowry right after the marriage.
Hia’s parents gave him Taka Two lakh. But Milton used to demand more money and at one point he sold 20 tolas of gold ornaments of Hia.
On September 9, 2005,Milton strangled Hia to death. After killing, Milton gave confessional statement and surrendered before the court.
Hia’s uncle Shahdat Hossain Sarker filed a case with Badda Police Station in this regard.
