After almost 35 years, the critically acclaimed serial drama of the eighties 'Eishob Dinratri' will be aired again on Bangladesh Television.
Nasir Mahmud, General Manager (Additional Responsibilities) of BTV Dhaka Center, confirmed that the series will be aired daily from 9pm every day from Monday.
Humayun Ahmed frankly admitted in an article in the weekly Bichitra (now defunct) that he had written the first series of his life 'to buy a color television' in the midst of financial difficulties.
He also said that the name 'Eishob Dinratri' was taken from the verses of Jibanananda Das's poem. The play is produced by Mustafizur Rahman.
For almost 9 months in 1985, viewers waited breathlessly for each episode of the series, which aired on BTV; The joys and sorrows of a middle class family and the story is still alive in the minds of the viewers.
The news of Tuni's death from leukemia caused a stir across the country. Nair Sultana Lopa played the role of Tuni. Bulbul Ahmed, artist Sarkar Apu, Asaduzzaman Nur, Dilara Zaman and many others acted in it.
When he went to producer Mustafizur Rahman with a one-episode drama, he suggested him to do a series. Humayun, a teacher at Dhaka University at the time, agreed without thinking.
Although the series was later finalized for 9 episodes, the number of episodes had to be gradually increased keeping in view the interest of the viewers.
Humayun Ahmed wrote, “One evening a gentleman came to my house. Her daughter's SSC exams were going on, so she was not allowed to watch an episode of the drama. The girl said she won't take the test anymore.
I had to convince her by explaining.” Before that, he had aired three solo dramas on BTV, but he got fame as a playwright only after airing 'Eisab Dinratri'. Later, he gifted the audience with appraised dramas like 'Bahubrihi' and 'Kothao Keu Nei'.
The two dramas have been aired on BTV since April 6 and will finish soon. Nasir Mahmood said that after the end of of 'Kothao Keu Nei'., another series based on Shahidullah Kaiser's novel 'Sangshaptak' will start broadcasting from 8:30 pm on Friday.
Imdadul Haque Milon dramatized ‘Sangshaptak’ from the novel and it is directed by Abdullah Al Mamun, Al Mansur and Mohammad Abu Taher.
Famous actor Humayun Faridi was praised by the audience for his role as 'Kankata Ramzan'. Ferdousi Majumder, Raisul Islam Asad, Mujibur Rahman Dilu, Mamunur Rashid and Subarna Mustafa also starred in it.
