A protest meeting and human chain has been held for the General Secretary of Pabna Press Club, Shomoy TV and Bangladesh Protidin Pabna district representative Saikat Afroz Asad for filing a case against him under the Digital Security Act.
A human chain-road rally was organized by journalists working in Ishwardi at 10:30 am on Saturday at the city's Railgate traffic intersection demanding withdrawal of the case.
On June 9, Khandaker Azizul Haque, a former Pabna-2 MP, filed a case against Saikat Afroz Asad at Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka under Section 29 of the Digital Security Act-2018. Ishwardi representatives of various national dailies, editors of local newspapers, journalists of various online news portals and leaders of socio-cultural organizations took part in the hour-long human chain programme.
Former President of Ishwardi Press Club Mostaq Ahmed Kiran, Freedom Fighter Fazlur Rahman Fantu, Daily Karatoya Representative SM Fazlur Rahman, Bangladesh Post correspondent Jahangir Hossain, Kaler Kantho correspondent Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Desh Rupantar correspondent Mahidul Islam and many other journalists were present at the human chain. The speakers demanded the repeal of the digital law and the immediate withdrawal of the case filed against Saikat Afroz Asad under the digital law.
