A number of sub-contractors have formed a human chain against the contractor Wahid Construction Limited in the BEPZA economic zone of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City. On Monday (April 11) morning, hundreds of people took part in the human chain at Sheikh Hasina Swarani under the banner of MB Associates, Mamun Enterprise, DP Enterprise (JB).

MBA Associates, Mamun Enterprise, DP Enterprise (JB) signed a contract on December 29, 2020 with Wahid Construction, the main contractor engaged in earthworks in the BEPZA economic zone, as a subcontractor, said Mihir Kanti Nath, Business Partner, MBAssights. Later, two more supplementary agreements were executed on 7 July and 24 October 2021. In the light of the agreement, MBME-DP Enterprise was filling the ground as a sub-contractor in the BEPZA economic zone. But on March 3, Wahid Construction gave us a letter canceling the contract without any reason. The contract was due to expire on April 30. This has caused a financial loss of around Tk 15 crore invested by us.

He said that BEPZA has lodged a written complaint with the project director and Zorarganj police station seeking redressal in this regard.

ABM Shabbir Ahmed, another business partner of MB Associates, Mamun Enterprise, DP Enterprise (JB), said, "People of Wahid Construction are threatening to kill us if we go too far with the issue of arrears."

Work has been disrupted due to non-payment of bills on time. But on this pretext, they cannot cancel the contract before it expires.

Although the first bill was submitted on May 1 last year, they released the money on March 25 next year. Thus every time they delay to pay the bill by showing different excuses. He sought the intervention of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Mirsarai MP Engineer Mosharraf Hossain to demand payment of arrears.

Sub-Contractor Arif said the work order had been revoked for violating the terms of the MB-ME-DP Enterprise contract, a subcontractor engaged in earthworks in the BEPZA economic zone. They could not fulfill the daily order to fill up the land as per the agreement.

Sub-Contractor Arif Reza said MB Associates, Mamun Enterprise, DP Enterprise could not complete the work within the stipulated time as per the agreement. Despite extending the contract several times, they could not work because they did not have money for truck rental and fuel. Meanwhile, we have given the job directly to China Harbor as there is a demand from BEPZA to fill the plot quickly. Under the agreement, the subcontractors will not receive any money from us; On the contrary, we will get money from them.
