People from Kalikapur, Auleapur and Motherbunia unions under Patuakhali Sadar upazila organised a human chain to save the environment, recover the dead canal ( Gorai river) from the grip of illegal occupiers, to stop the disposal of toxic water of Kohinoor Rice Mills and the trash of the Saw Mills of Rafique Dhali at Sharikkhali Secondary School road on Wednesday morning.
Local students, farmers, youngmen and people from various professions attended the human chain. The speakers in the human chain demanded to build a pollution-free, occupation-free, liveable environment. They said, an adverse impact on biodiversity is being felt due to the disposing of the trash of the mills, chemical laced hot water direct to the water of the canal and the occupying of the canals.
They warned to launch a further staunch programme if the problems are not solved immediately.
