Human chain formed demanding embankment in Godagari

Residents of erosion hit four villages under Deopara union under Godagari upazila have formed a human chain at Rajabari crossing on Tuesday morning demanding construction of a permanent embankment beside the river to save four villages from the devastating erosion of the river Padma. Ecepting the residents of the villages, hundreds of students and common people participated the human chain programme. 

Speakers at the human chain mentioned the water of the river is continually increasing, Already many houses beside the river have been devoured by river erosion and several educational institutions and houses are being threatened to be eroded. Already more thana 500 bighas of land have been devoured by the river erosion. But, they mentioned, Water Development Board officials have not yet taken any pragmatic step to save the villages from being eroded rather they were only assuring the people to take step in this connection. 

Speakers at the human chain further mentioned if the goverment does not take any prompt action to resist river erosion and to construct permanent embankment, hundreds of houses and several educational institutions of four villages will be devuored by the river erosion and four villages under Deopara union will be completely devastated by the river Padma. 

The speakers requested the concerned authorities to build an embankment soon to save four villages.

Among others, Chairman of Deopara Union Bela spoke at the human chain programme.
