Human chain demands punishment of killers in Pabna

People of Bera Municipal area of Pabna formed a human chain in front of Shahid Abdul Khaleque Stadium of Bera on Sunday morning demanding justice and exemplary punishment of the killers of housewife Kaniz Fatema (18), daughter of Abdul Kader of Shuvopur area under Bera upazila.

 According to police sources, some two-year ago Kaniz Fatema was married to Rakibul of the same area. During marriage, parents of Kaniz Faema paid Taka 550,000 as dowry to Rakibul. But, Rakibul and his family members often tortured Kaniz demanding more money. Moreover, Rakibul was engaged in an extra-marital affair with another woman of the area. 

Abdul Kader, father of Kaniz informed Rakibul tortured his daughter severely on various pleas. As a result, his daughter often came to his house weeping. He demanded exemplary punishment of killer Rakibul and his family members. 

Masud Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police ( crime) of Pabna informed two years ago Rakibul married Kaniz. Soon after marriage, the couple locked in family feud over dowry and other issues. 

On the Eid night (on April-13 night) Rakibul took Kaniz to a house at Karamja area under Santhia police station and strangled her to death in the early hours of Friday. He then escaped the scene by drowning the dead body of Kaniz in water of a nearby ditch. 

Family members of Kaniz finding her no where informed police at Bera police station. Later, the family members invited Kaniz's husband Rakibul to a feast at their house on the Eid afternoon. When Rakibul arrived in the house, family members of Kaniz confiscated him in a room and informed police. At a stage of interrogation, Rakibul disclosed to the police of the incident of killing his wife. 

Arobindo Sarker, Officer-in-charge of Bera Model police station informed the dead body of housewife Kaniz has been recovered and sent to the morgue of the hospital for autopsy. Abdul Kader, father of Kaniz, has filed a case with Bera police station and police arrested Rakibul in connection with the murder of his wife.
