Bangladesh has come a long way since the days when famine raged through the localities and people died from hunger. Now it is more of a chapter of distant history, rather than a harsh reality.

We are now a rising lower middle-income country that is able to afford luxurious products and services. Our economy is now better than ever before with money in everyone’s wallet.

A report published in this daily showed that the country has made huge progress in poverty alleviation and performed well in several other indicators under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is something that calls for a celebration. However, there are still problems like youth unemployment in the country that deserve proper attention.

Still this growth is anachronistic in comparison to other courtiers of modern times. There is still time that needs to pass before any substantial contribution can be noted down regarding this sector. The WB mentions that industry and services are the driving force behind the reduction of poverty.

We believe that under the prudent leadership

of Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh will be able to

achieve other SDGs as well.

The report further expressed that the country performed well in attainment of six goals, including poverty alleviation, among the 17 SDGs, in the last four years.

Also, the population living below the national high poverty line and below the poverty line is steadily declining. Since this is the present scenario, it can be assumed that the rest of the SDGs can also be fulfilled swiftly as was the case with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

We agree with the planning minister in this regard that the country is on the right track to achieving the SDGs and commend the fact that the government has been able to achieve 17 SDGs. We believe that under the prudent leadership of Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh will be able to achieve other SDGs as well.

As the economy is experiencing a quick rebound after the fallout of coronavirus, it is the perfect time to map out new plans and set new goals with a view to fulfilling the rest of the SDGs.
