Army and police have recovered a huge amount of government goods from the rented house of Sajahan Siraj Dolon, a relative of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, in Kashyabpara of Meherpur town.
They conducted an operation based on secret information on Thursday night. The goods recovered include Quran Sharif, sports equipment, sewing machine, wheel chair, doctor's apron, PPE, saree, lungi, three pieces, student's tiffin boxes and various other goods. Each item is marked ‘not for sale’.
Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Gazi Muidur Rahman said there are government goods in the basement of Surman Ali's house in Kashyabpara. Based on such news, a team of Sadar Upazila administration and army went to raid that house. The house was locked then. The owner of the house Surman Ali was informed. Later, with the help of the owner of the house, a team of army and police broke the locks of the two gates and entered inside. There are numerous plastic bags in the three rooms of the house. There was no light in any of the rooms.
“After opening the bags, we can see Quran Sharif, sports equipment, sewing machine, wheel chair, doctor's apron, PPE, saree, lungi, three pieces, student's tiffin boxes, etc. The goods are kept in police custody. A truck was taken to the spot. Goods were loaded on the truck and taken to the office of the Deputy Commissioner,” said Gazi Muidur Rahman.
He also said that Sajahan Siraj Dolon rented the house. His house is at Dariapur village under Mujibnagar upazila. He is the cousin of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain. The seizure of goods will be listed by Friday. He also said that legal action will be taken against the accused persons later.
On the question of what is the price of these government goods, the official said, after making a full list of the goods, the real value of them will be known.
Surman Ali, the owner of the house, said that a year ago, Sajahan Siraj Dolon, the cousin of former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, rented the three rooms along with the dining room of the ground floor of the two-storey house. He used to pay a monthly rent of Tk 6,000 and keep all the government goods here. Sometimes, he took out the goods from here. The house owner said he did not know much more than that. He also does not know what to do with these goods.
