The authorities concerned has run an experimental Drill Stem Test in the well No 3 in the Shahajadpur-Sundalpur gas field to assess the storage of gas.

Of the three zones of the well no 3, the testing was conducted at the lowest zone on Saturday, 11 years after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s inauguration of gas field.

Initially, the gas has been found in the three zones of the well. The DST has been running to assess the amount of gas stored in the no 3 well.

The excavation, started through drilling in November 2023, has now completed, according to officials.

Prince Md Al Helal, the project director of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex), said that the experimental DST testing of the well’s lower zone commenced on Saturday.

“The testing activities for the lower zone of the well No 3 has been underway. The drilling officials have so far reached 3,385 metres,” Helal said.

Of the 3,385 metres, the ongoing test activities has been run between depths of 3,341 and 3,346 metres.

Further testing for the remaining two zones will commence soon to get a comprehensive insight into the gas reserves after the post-DST evaluation.

Bapex Charkakra well number 3 drilling operations in-charge Md Asaduzzaman told reporters they had been running the excavation aiming at contributing 10 million cubic feet of gas per day to the national grid. Officials are hopeful of providing sufficient amount of gas as predicted before.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the Shahjadpur-Sundalpur gas field on January 8, 2013, which commenced production from well number 1.
