Huge cigarettes with counterfeit stamps seized

Police raided Pabna's Santhia and seized 50,000 cigarettes with illegal and fake tax stamps. However, the police could not arrest anyone in the incident. A large quantity of illegal and counterfeit tax stamped cigarettes were seized from Chhatak Barat area of Santhia upazila.

Sources said that illegal and fake tax stamped cigarettes of Manmohan Company called Asan Gold were found in remote villages of Santhia upazila. All these companies have been running their business for the last few days. 

On Tuesday morning, a team of police led by Sathiya Police Station Inspector SI Azad raided a shop named ‘Bondhu Traders’ in Kashinathpur Bazar of Santhia Upazila and seized a small number of illegal and counterfeit tax stamped cigarettes.

Later, on the basis of secret information, they seized 50,000 cigarettes with illegal and fake tax stamps from Chhatak Barat area of the upazila. However, the cigarette dealers fled after sensing the presence of the police. The value of the seized cigarettes is around one lakh taka.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station Asaduzzaman admitted the seizure of cigarettes and said a case has been filed with Santhia Police Station in this regard. The campaign against all these illegal and counterfeit tax stamped cigarettes will continue.
