The much-awaited under construction third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will accelerate the communication system and play a vital role in boosting the economy of the country.
As the third terminal is now being built as a world-class one it will be connected with the underground metro rail and elevated expressway as well. Both outgoing and incoming passengers’ suffering on busy city roads, caused by traffic gridlock, will also go off soon.
Officials of the project said, “It will be able to increase the passenger handling capacities and add new opportunities to the country’s economy as the airport is being constructed in an ultra-modern way.
AKM Maksudul Islam, Director of the Third Terminal Project told Bangladesh Post, “We are working here round the clock and we are achieving satisfactory progress of the project. The overall progress of the project is now almost exceeding eight percent. We are hopeful to complete the project within the stipulated time”.
According to the project details, the terminal will be connected with metro rail MRT1 via road tunnel that will reach directly Kamalapur via Khilkhet, Jamuna Future Park, Badda, Rampura, Malibagh, and Rajarbagh. Moreover, the proposed subway connecting the third terminal and the Dhaka Elevated Expressway is under construction.
Project concerned are hopeful that, the newly constructed terminal will send a positive message that Bangladesh is advancing socio-economically. The government thinks that the airport will create a positive impression among foreign investors, tourists, and foreign tourists upon arrival.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the construction company is determined to complete the project before the scheduled time of June 2023.
The construction work of the project was halted from March to June due to coronavirus pandemic. But, now the workers and engineers are working day and night to fill the gap and finish the work on time.
World-renowned Korean top company Samsung and Japan's Sumizi are jointly working on the project. The official work started on December 26 last year.
The new international passenger terminal building will have a floor area of roughly 226,000m².
Additionally, the project will see the construction of several exit and connecting taxiways, a parking apron in Terminal 3, new roads to connect the terminal with the airport road and a drainage system.
Various water treatment, power supply, rescue and fire-fighting facilities will also be built as part of the development.
