An extensive construction work of the third terminal of HazratShahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is going on in full swing as the government wants to complete the much-awaited project within the scheduled time (March 2024).

According to the project officials, they are continuing the construction work in such a way so that they can complete the project work by September 2023, before the deadline.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman told Bangladesh Post, "This is one of the priority based projects of the country. As Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has special attention to this project, we all are trying to fulfill our responsibilities with full dedication.”

"With the installation of around 800 out of 3,000 pillars, progress of the overall project is more than seven percent so far. The work will be completed ahead of the scheduled time. At present, we have completed the partial construction workthree months earlier than the scheduled time frame. If everything goes well in the future we will be able to complete the whole work of the project at least eight months before the scheduled time,” he added.

“I personally inspect the progress of the project with the contractors regularly. Overall progress is satisfactory. After completion of the project, this airport will be one of the most beautiful and sophisticated airports in the world. This will greatly reduce the sufferings of passengers. Besides, this airport will play an important role in the economy of the country,” added Mofidur.

Visiting the construction yard at the HazratShahjalal International Airport (HSIA), it was found that project engineers and workers were continuing their work round the clock. A total of 1,500 workers are working to take the project work ahead every day. Around half of the soil filling work has already been completed.

The progress of the project is continuing despite the coronavirus pandemic. The officials concerned are working at the construction site maintaining hygiene rules and social distance.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali has expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work. He also expressed his hope that the third terminal of the international airport will be completed before the scheduled time.

He made this observation while inspecting the construction work progress at the airport last month. During his visit Senior Secretary of the ministry MdMahibulHaque, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal MdMofidur Rahman and other senior officials were also there.

The terminal will be completed in the first phase, then cargo, taxiway, flying club, connecting road and other installations will be completed in phases.

The project will cost Tk 21,300 crore. Of the total construction cost, the government will provide Tk 5,000 crore while the rest are to be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
