The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations under 10 education boards were published on Wednesday. A total of 9,88,172 students have passed in the examinations. The combined pass rate this year is 73.93 per cent, which is 7.29 percentage higher than that in the previous year. The pass rate last year was 66.64 per cent.
The number of total GPA-5 achievers also witnessed a 61.60 percent rise from last year’s total. This year, a total of 47,286 students achieved the highest GPA; the number was 29,262 last year. Moreover, the number of institutions with 100 per cent pass rate this year has also increased to more than double when compared to the number last year. At the same time, the number of institutions with zero per cent pass rate has come down to 41 this year, which was 55 in the previous year.
Meanwhile, girls have outshined boys in terms of success rate in this year’s examinations under 10 education boards. 76.44 per cent of the girl examinees have come out successful, while the pass rate of boys is 71.67 per cent. However, in comparison to last year, pass rates of both girls and boys have gone up this year. Last year, the pass rate of girls was 69.72 per cent and that of boys was 63.88 percent.
As part of the result summery, in the eight general education boards, a total of 71.85 per cent students passed the examination, and the number of GPA 5 achievers from general education board is 41,807. The pass rate of Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board is 88.56 per cent and the number of GPA-5 achievers from this board is 2,243, while the pass rate under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is 82.62 per cent and the number of GPA-5 achievers from this board is 2,243.
This year, a total of 13,36,629 examinees appeared for the examinations which were held between April 1 and May 12 at 2,579 centres. Of them, a total of 11,38,550 students were from the general educational boards, 78,451 from the Madrasa Education Board and 124265 from the BTEB. The education ministry published the results on Wednesday morning. Education Minister Dipu Moni and chairmen of 10 boards handed over the summary of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban.
Later, the education minister read out the summary of the results at a press conference held in her office. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her satisfaction over this year’s results. She said, “The results are sufficiently acceptable and good and I think that if the students pay proper attention to their studies, their results will be better in future.”
The prime minister congratulated the successful candidates. She commiserated the unsuccessful ones and asked them not to be disheartened. She advised the unsuccessful students to use the chance the get next time. The prime minister also thanked the teachers and everyone concerned for publishing the results within the stipulated time. She went to say that an educated population can build a developed, prosperous, poverty and hunger-free country. Pointing to the fact that female students did better than their male counterparts in this year’s HSC and its equivalent examinations, she urged the boys to concentrate on studies to narrow down the gender gap in public examinations.
