A female student was caught red handed while trying to sit for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination at Sylhet Government College centre on Thursday using a fake admit card.
The student claimed she was unaware of the forgery and said it was arranged by her brother who is currently ill and admitted to a hospital.
Source said during the entry process on the first day of the HSC exams, invigilators at Sylhet Government College noticed two female students carrying admit cards with the same identification details.
Both students were from Madan Mohan College in Sylhet.
Upon inquiry and verification with the Sylhet Education Board and thecollege authorities, it was found that the admit card used by a student named Tahmina Akhter was forged.
The original admit card belonged to another student Faizia Akhter who was then allowed to sit for the exam while Tahmina was detained at the centre.
During questioning, Tahmina said she missed the official payment deadline for the exam after which her brother paid a broker to secure her admit card.
AZM Mainul Hossain, Principal of Sylhet Government College, said, “If the student or her brother is directly involved in producing the fake admit card they should be handed over to law enforcers. However, since the person in question is a student there is also a humanitarian aspect to consider. Therefore, we are releasing her into the custody of her family.”
