In order to bring in more spinners in the national team, Bangladesh spin bowling consultant Daniel Vettori will now work with Bangladesh Cricket Board High Performance Unit (HPU) spinners during the forthcoming                  Sri Lanka tour.

The Tigers tour of Sri Lanka is scheduled in September-November this year. Therefore, the HPU will travel alongside the national team in the Lankan Island.

There, team Bangladesh are scheduled to play three-match Test                  series by September end.

The HPU spinners will work with Vettori as the BCB altered the initial contract with the former New Zealand skipper.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the board wanted to make some changes to Vettori’s contract. This was done to make Vettori more involved in country’s cricket. Now, larger group of spinners will work under his belt.

Recently, HPU chairman Naimur Rahman informed the media of Vettori’s participation with HPU spinners during the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

“It is mentioned in the contract that Vettori will work with spinners who are not in the national team. During the camp in Sri Lanka, he will be looking after our (HPU) spinners in the training session, but when the national team begin their Test series (against Sri Lanka), it won't be possible for him to guide them because at that point the HPU group will be separated from the national team,” said Naimur.

“Probably, there will be seven to eight spinners involved with the national team and the HPU, and the coaching staff can plan how to work with them during that time frame,” he added.

With individual training underway, Tigers are now preparing to return to the field as an unit for the first time since March amid Covid-19 pandemic.

The cricketers are likely to have a week-long camp in Dhaka before the team leave for Sri Lanka.

BCB want HPU team to play a number of four-day and one-day matches in Sri Lanka.
