Part of the drain and road at Laluar Mahallapara Housing Center of Rehabilitation Center-2 at Kalapara in Patuakhali have collapsed. In the last three days of heavy rains, about 70 feet of drain on the west side of the housing and the outer road along the dirt road collapsed. Although there is a fear of collapse of the pucca houses built for the family members affected by the road, the Payra Port Authority and the concerned contractor have started repair work to prevent the landslide.

These houses were built for the family members affected by the land acquisition for the construction of Payra Port. However, the PayraPort Authority said that some drains and roads have been damaged due to heavy rains but are being repaired.

In order to rehabilitate the family members affected by the land acquisition in the construction of Payra Port, the government through the Payra Port authority rehabilitated a total of 3,423 families in Kalapara by constructing housing centers in Mahallapara, Meraupara, Hachanapara, Chandupara, Lemupara, Dhulasar and Londa villages.

A housing center is being constructed for 638 families in Mahallapara of Lalua Union. In the meantime, 408 families have been allotted houses in Mahallapara Housing Center. Most of the house construction work in the housing center has been completed. The contractor E Engineering Limited is constructing a housing center.

The work of paved houses, brick paved roads, drains, installation of water pumps, power connection lines inside the housing center has already been completed 80 percent. The work of three-storey school and mosque has been decorated.

In the last few days, due to continuous heavy rains, the road including the outer area on the west side of the housing and about 60 feet drain has collapsed. The families in the collapsed area are worried. Initiatives were taken to block the houses by throwing sand and geo bags. Locals said the drain and the road could collapse as rainwater from the entire project flowed westwards as there was cropland around the Mahallapara residence. However, the collapse did not happen again as the concerned contractor started work to prevent the breakdown on the instructions of the Payra Port Authority.

SM Rajibul Ahsan, project engineer of E-Engineering Limited, a contractor, said some areas had collapsed due to heavy rains. But there is nothing to panic about. They quickly began work on rebuilding collapsed roads and drains. They are doing all the development work keeping in mind that there will be no problem in the future.

However, the residents of the housing center have various complaints about the construction work of the project. Due to the rain, the roof of the house is leaking and the house is in danger of collapsing. At the same time, they are demanding the construction of roads and drains that have collapsed rapidly. At the same time, they are demanding the administration to strictly monitor the issue so that all roads, drains and houses are sustainable.

Kalapara Lalua UP Chairman Shawkat Hossain Biswas Tapan said work on the collapsed area has started immediately as they immediately informed the Payra Port authorities about the collapse of roads and drains at the housing center in the rains. However, the people of the area demanded that the housing work be completed immediately.

Meanwhile, the lifting authorities including the DD of the project visited the site on Thursday afternoon to see the damage to the housing center in Laluar Mahalla Para. At this time they talked to the residents of the residence and assured them not to be confused in any way.

In this regard, Director (Administration) of Payra Port Authority Mohiuddin Ahmed Khan said on his mobile phone, Patuakhali has recorded the highest rainfall in the last few days. Some areas collapsed due to heavy rains. However, there was no problem with the building. He directed immediate repair of the collapsed site and said that the unfinished housing work would be completed in a very short time and the affected families would be informed.
