Housing ministry directs CDA to remove risky installations

The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has written to the CDA to take action regarding the removal and acquisition of risky structures constructed near the boundary wall of Bangladesh Bank building under Kotwali police station in Chattogram city.  

The letter said that the ministry was requested to take necessary action in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations and to inform the ministry of the steps taken.  The letter, signed by Deputy Secretary Md Mahmudur Rahman Habib on November 17, was sent along with the CDA.  Copies of the letter were also sent to the concerned people including the deputy commissioner.  Deputy Commissioner Md Mominur Rahman said, "We have also received a copy of the letter given to CDA where action has been taken.

It is learned that the Ministry of Housing and Public Works has given the letter in response to two separate letters from the Financial Institutions Department of the District Administration and Finance Ministry.  

In the letter given by the Department of Financial Institutions of the Ministry of Finance, it is mentioned that in the light of the letter received from the Deputy Commissioner, Chittagong regarding the removal and acquisition of the 10/12 storey risky establishment of District Bar Association built near the boundary wall of Bangladesh Bank building in violation of KPI Security Policy, 2013. It is requested to take necessary action as per the provisions.  Earlier on September 16, the land ministry directed the district administration to take steps to remove illegal structures at Court Hill.  Earlier, a number of service providers had issued reports stating that the buildings were at risk. It may be recalled that in early September, the Prime Minister approved the proposal of the Cabinet Division for eviction of unauthorized structures at Court Hill, including five buildings of the District Bar Association.
