Housewife suffocated to death by miscreants in Manikganj

A middle age women was suffocated to death by miscreants in their resident at South Sewta area in Manikganj municipality area of the district town in brod day light on Wednesday morning. The miscreants also looted cash and ornaments at the time of killing. The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Begum, 40, the wife of Zahirul Islam of the area. He is the mother of one son and a daughter.

Officer-in-Charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station Rakibuzzaman confirmed the murder. Zahirul Islam, husband of the deceased's said he was guarding the pigeon on the roof of a 4-storey building at his residence around 9.00 am. His wife Mahmuda and elder daughter Jyoti, 25, were staying at the home at the time of incident. At 10.00 am, he entered the room and saw his daughter’s hand and foot was tied by rope.

Later, his daughter Joyti narrated that a gang of miscreants, numbering 4/5 had entered the house and killed her mother by coating ‘Lap’. Sensing the incident, she come out from toilet and started shouting for help. The miscreants confined Joyoti in a room and also tied up her hands and mouth when she tried to resist.

At that time they robbed the mother-daughter's necklace of gold ornaments. On receiving the news, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body of his wife. The body of the housewife was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately. However, initially it was believed that the miscreants had suffocated to death her”, said Inspector Rakibuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Manikganj Sadar Police Station.

Additional police super of Manikganj Sadar Circle Haqfizur Rqahman visited the spot and said  “We would be able to know the actual motive behind the killings only after investigation.’’ Replying to a query, the officer said he has found some important clues, but he would not disclose any details for the sake of probe.

A case was lodged with Sadar Police Station in this connection. No one was arrested in this regard.
