Police have recovered the hanging body of a 20-year-old housewife, Ushnita Akhtar, from her husband’s residence in Madharchar, Melanda, Jamalpur. The incident occurred in the early hours of 20 September, at approximately 1am.

Following the discovery, Ushnita's husband, Robin Mia (25), fled the scene and is currently absconding. In connection with the case, police have taken Robin’s father, Raich Uddin (45), and mother, Firoza Begum (40), into custody for questioning.

Ushnita, originally from Kanipara village in Madarganj upazila, was the daughter of Wazed Ali. Her stepmother, Shilpi Begum, has alleged that Ushnita was murdered in a premeditated manner. She stated that at around 3am, Robin Mia called her to inform her of Ushnita’s death. She further claimed that Robin had been physically abusing Ushnita since their marriage in November last year.

Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam reported that Robin allegedly returned home from Jamalpur city around 1am and, after forcing entry by breaking a door and window, found his wife hanging. The police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for a post-mortem examination. The matter is under investigation.
