Police recovered the body of a housewife from a septic tank at Chandra Khajardek in Kaliakair upazila on Wednesday morning, two and a half months after she had gone missing.

The deceased was identified as Farida Begum, 35, wife of Mansur Ali of the area.

Officer-In-Charge of Kalikair Police Station, Alamgir Hossain said Mansur, caretaker of Abtab Uddin Dewan’s house, strangled his wife and hid the body in the septic tank about two and a half month ago.

He told people that his wife had eloped. Farida’s sister had filed a case with police on November 4. Two days later, police arrested Mansur’s first wife Rekha Begum, 38, and his son Swapan Mia, 20.

Mansur, 55, was arrested from the city’s Ashulia on Monday night. Police recovered the body after Mansur confessed to his crimes and sent it to Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also arrested the house owner’s wife Khodeza Begum for allegedly assisting Mansur in the murder, the OC added.
