A housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband at Geddarbazar area under Fatulla police station in Narayanganj on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Sultana Begum, 42, a readymade garments worker, wife of Mizanur Rahman Mozumdar, a teanat of Geddarbazar area who hailed from Chandpur district.
Soon after the incident police arrested murdered Sultana’s husband Mizanur Rahman in this connection. Slain Sultana’s brother Shafiqul Islam filled a murder case with Fatulla police accusing his brother-in-law (Sultana's husband).
Police and locals claimed that in a stage of altercation between husband and wife all of a sudden husband Mizanur hit on his wife’s head with a hail-stone and then Sultana fall on the floor being unconscious.
Later, senseless Sultana was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital where on duty physician referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and she died there while undergoing treatment.
Officer in charge of Fatulla police station Md Aslam Hossain said that the lone accused was captured immediately and the body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
