In the haor of Kishoreganj, the green paddy fields have turned gray and white in the sudden hot wind. On last Sunday (April 4) night, during the three hours long norwester and hot winds, most of the boro paddy field in the haor has turned gray and white.

Not only haor but also 25,000 hectares of boro land in 13 upazilas of Kishoreganj have been affected in the same way. In this cruel irony of nature farmer have become devestated.

According to the Agricultural Extension Office, boro paddy has been planted in 1 lakh 65 hectares of land in the district this year and the yield is also very good. But last Sunday night, Kalbaishakhi storm and hot wind in Kishoreganj Haor Itna Upazila Raytuti, Badla, Baribari Union, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila, Karimganj Upazila, Hossainpur Upazila and Tarail Upazila have suffered more damage.

Affected farmers said that even though they had suffered losses due to hailstorms or early floods before, they were the first to see boro land being destroyed in hot winds. We are lost because of such damage. About three hours of Kalbaishakhi storm and hot winds have damaged 25,000 hectares of boro paddy in different upazilas of the district including Haor in Kishoreganj.

Ataur, a farmer from Razi village, said that the paddy was to be harvested in 10-15 days. But in the hot air the paddy is all ruined.

Budu Mia of Uttar Razi village stood on the ground and said in a tearful voice, "I planted paddy in 14 acres of land, but the hot wind has killed me all." Now I don't want to cut rice anymore.
