Hot spell, hailstorm damage mango orchards badly

The hot,dry-spell with no rainfall for a long time is badly hampering the smooth growth of Mango in Rajshahi and  Chapain­wabganj this year. A strong, sand-storm on Sunday afternoon in Rajshahi and Chapainawab­ganj and the hailstorm of last Friday in parts of Rajshahi will make an adverse impact on the production of mango. More than 60 to 70 percent of small-green mangoes of Rajshahi district have 

fallen due to such natural catastrophes.

It is learnt, on Sunday last the first Nor'wester of the season hits Rajshahi with a speed of 65 kmph. The hail storm also hit various places of the district without the Rajshahi city areas. There was a huge damage of young mangoes and Lychees in the storm and hail, informed local farmers. 

SM Rezwanul Haque, Observator of Rajshahi Meteorological Office informed, the first nor'wester of the region hits Rajshahi on Sunday. There was also a hailstorm at the same time in Bagha and Chaghat upazilas. However, on Friday afternoon, there was another storm associated with hail and rain in Charghat, Bagha, Durgapur and parts of Natore district have also severely damaged the young mangoes with a huge fall of those.
