Hossain elected Chairperson of South Asian Regional Initiative

Engineer Mohammad Hossain, Director General of Power Cell under the power division of Bangladesh on Thursday elected Chairperson of South Asian Regional Initiative (SARI E/I) for the next one year.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) initiated the South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy (SARI/E) program covering eight countries of the region including Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. 

Started in 2000, the programme has consistently strived for the promotion of energy security in the South Asian nations by working in three focus areas- cross-border electricity trade; energy market formation; and regional clean energy development.

Mohammad Hossain said, ‘Thanks to Steering Committee for electing me as the Chairperson of South Asian Regional Initiative (SARI E/I). I will try my best to strengthen the regional cooperation for energy sector development.’ 

Mohammad Hossain for the past 33 years of his career has been serving in different organizations in diverse high-profile positions. He has been serving as the Director General of Power Cell since 2013.

He has also played a vital role in the development of power generation, transmission, and distribution and prepared several acts, rules & regulations for spearheading the power sector development
