Rajshahi City Hospital received infection prevention control materials aimed at providing better services to the patients, particularly coming from the low-incoming and marginalized families.

Rajshahi City Unit of Bangladesh Red "Crescent Society (BDRCS) donated 18 types of preventive materials supported by German and Denis Red Cross under the Heat wave Project at the hospital premises on Monday afternoon.

BDRCS city unit general secretary Shaheen Akhter Rainy, central committee executive member Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, city unit vice-president Rejaul Karim and Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum were present on the occasion.

On August 4 last, the RCC resumed the city hospital with its own management for ensuring healthcare facilities to the public in general, including the marginalized and low-incoming people.

Since then, the hospital has been extending different types of health services, including general, reproductive, antenatal care, normal and cesarean delivery, postnatal care, family planning, child healthcare, adolescent care and eye care.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said the hospital will be transformed into a full-fledged medical college and hospital in future. "We have already submitted a project in this regard to the ministry of social welfare," he added.

The 25-bed Rajshahi City Hospital was built in 1995 in the Raninagar area of the city to give medical treatment to the general people at a low cost. At first it was named as Labour Hospital. It was renamed as Rajshahi City Hospital in 1999.  The activities of the outdoor department of the hospital were inaugurated on 16 May 2000. Maternity and indoor activities were introduced in the following year.

The hospital was equipped with 20 modern beds, a cabin with AC, and an operation theatre.
