Hospital employee arrested for stealing medical supplies

A Junior Health Educationist of Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital was arrested by a mobile court on Wednesday night for trying to steal and sell medical supplies of the hospital.

He was arrested from in front of Bandhan Diagnostic Center in Thakurgaon town in a joint operation of Thakurgaon district administration and National Security Intelligence (NSI).

The arrestee was identified as Ruhul Amin, 45, son of Lutfar Rahman of Bhaduris village under Nawabganj Police Station in Dinajpur. He was working as a Junior Health Educationist (third class employee) at Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital.

According to the mobile court, the operation was carried out in front of Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital on Wednesday night based on secret information.

A total of 97 pieces of saline series, 395 pieces of hand gloves and 13 pieces of crepe bandage rolls worth about Tk 26 thousand, were recovered from the detainee at the time.

Senior officials of the administration including Dr. Rakibul Alam Choyan, Resident Medical Officer of Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital were present at the occasion.

Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Amit Kumar Saha said the matter needed further investigation. Therefore, Ruhul Amin has been handed over to the Sadar Police Station and instructions have been given to file regular theft cases with the Police Station.

Dr. Rakibul Alam said they would look into how the medical supplies were stolen. A case of theft will be filed against Ruhul Amin. If anyone else is involved, action will be taken against them
