As a gift of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 1,056 homeless, destitute families of 11 upazilas of Naogaon district are getting semi-pucca houses on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
These houses are being offered under Ashrayan-2 Project undertaken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
It is learnt, these houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries by January, 2021. However, the number of beneficiaries may increase further.
According to sources, the total construction cost of these houses at the field levels was Taka 18 crore 05 lakh 76 thousand. Each house was constructed at a cost of Taka one lakh 71 thousand. Each house contains two rooms, one kitchen, toilet and open space in front of each house.
One beneficiary informed, he has no house of his own. He used to live with family members in a house made of jute sticks and polythene in other's land. Now, with the new house, he will be able to live a stable life peacefully.
Harun-ur-Rashid, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Naogaon informed, upazila level officials were relentlessly working to implement the project successfully. The houses will be handed over as soon as the works of those are finished.
He said, he has visited some of those under-construction houses in various upazilas including in Naogaon Sadar upazila. The beneficiaries of those houses were seen to express their pleasure and satisfaction at the news of receiving those house. Each house contains the civic facilities including sanitation and electricity.
