Since 90 percent of the people in the capital reside in the city through renting homes from homeowners, there is a massive amount of money that goes into providing rent of their residence each month.
As most people continue to lose earning opportunities due to the corona crisis, paying house rent for millions of tenants is increasingly becoming huge burden amid the coronavirus outbreak.
As a result, many homeowners are not collecting the rents of their tenants because of extending a show of support. However, this is causing a dilemma on both the homeowners and tenants.
A recent report published in this daily projected that many discontented house owners, especially those who survive only on rent and those who also depend on rent money for repaying home loans, are demanding a way out from such crisis.

Since most of the people of Dhaka have been staying indoors since the end of March, it is quite evident that people are suffering from not being able to earn enough money.
During this time it is also a possibility that many wage earners are scraping into their savings which is also a cause for the inability to pay the rents.
This type of problem was also seen at the beginning of April. The problem’s solution can be the partial waiver of the rents of the tenants. This way both the homeowners and tenants can get a small breathing space.
It will not only benefit the middle or lower middle class of the city, but also be helpful as a whole.
Considering this, the demand for wavering the rent for at least two months has been strong. As we have already seen, some landlords in Dhaka have waived last month’s rent. We thank them.
We think homeowners who are dependent can opt for wavering half rent to help the needy at this time of crisis, the government can also take initiatives on home rent waiver too.
