The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), was observed in Khulna city as elsewhere of the country with due religious fervor and solemnity on Sunday.
On this day in 570 Hijri, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah, Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind.
Special prayers, zikir, doa and milad mahfil, discussion, providing food to orphans and destitute and processions were the main features of the day.
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) organized a discussion and doa mahfil at its building on the occasion while Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as the chief guest.
Later, he distributed prizes among winners of Hamd and Quran recitation competition.
Awami League city and district units also organized a discussion and doa mahfil at the party office after magrib prayer marking the day.
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna University (KU) and different educational institutions organized discussions and doa mahfils after zohor prayers.
Different social, cultural, religious, spiritual and political organisations, Khulna Press Club and various state-run organizations, including the Islamic Foundation, took elaborate programmes to mark the day.
Several bamboo-made temporary gates wrapped by long rag with affixing colorful festoons and banners were erected at important road corners and city islands on the occasion.
