Holy Crescent, CMC Hospital ready with 200 beds to treat corona patients

Chittagong Medical College Hospital and Holy Crescent Hospital’s 200 beds have been prepared for the treatment of Corona virus in Chattogram.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the medical services of corona patients at CMC and Holy Crescent Hospital on Thursday morning.

The medical services started with 100 beds, but soon 10 ICU beds with ventilators will be set up in separate blocks. The central oxygen line at CMC Hospital has been fixed. The work of setting up ICU will be completed in a short time, said CMC Hospital Director Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir.

According to CMC hospital administration sources, the three wards adjacent to the emergency department on the ground floor of the hospital (casualty, physical medicine, dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases) have already been shifted from there. The entire block on the left side of the main entrance of the hospital has been prepared by the hospital authorities as the corona block. 

The observation cell in this part already has 30 beds. More than 60 to 70 beds have been placed here. The hospital administration is going to start the medical activities of 100 bed corona patients in the initial stage in the block. CMC Hospital has got 166 nurses out of the newly recruited and 30 doctors were posted on last Tuesday.

The ministry approved the treatment of corona patients in a separate block of CMC Hospital on last 15 May. The hospital administration received a letter from the ministry regarding the approval on May 16. The letter asked for approval to provide treatment to Corona patients in a completely separate block while continuing the treatment of other common patients. 

The Holy Crescent Hospital was instructed by the Ministry of Health to be run under the management of the General Hospital on the same day.

The Ministry of Health has directed the government to mobilize all the manpower including local level doctors and nurses to specialize in the Holy Crescent Hospital which is ready to treat corona patients.

The directive from the health ministry said a 250-bed general hospital would be set up in Chittagong. The Holy Crescent Hospital has been approved as Covid-19 Dedicated Hospital. 

It is necessary to ensure the provision of comprehensive health care in coordination with the divisional and district committees to deal with Covid-19. The letter also said that a budget allocation for the 250-bed General Hospital could be proposed under the Economic Code.

Chittagong Divisional Director of Health Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir, CMC Hospital Director Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir, Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Dr. Fazle Rabbi, General Hospital Superintendent Ashim Kumar Nath and others were present at the time.
