As news broke that Joe Biden had been elected the next President of the United States, reaction poured out on social media from filmmakers, actors, and across the Hollywood industry.

In a nod to the 20 projected Electoral College votes from Pennsylvania that delivered Joe Biden a projected victory Friday morning against President Donald Trump, Spike Lee celebrated the news by posting a clip of Elton John’s “Philadelphia Freedom” on Instagram. “This Long Wait Is OVAH. FINALLY. Onward And Upward. Peace, Justice And Love,” Lee wrote.

As a Democrat, Biden was a strong favorite among filmmakers and others in creative fields, the same people who have spent the last four years rallying against the policies and behavior of Trump and more recently raising money for Biden.

Here are some of the reactions of celebrities:

John Legend: The singer who had been quite vocal against the Trump government was quite ecstatic by Biden's win.

He wrote on his Twitter wall, "Congratulations to President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris! Thank you for choosing to serve your country during these challenging times."

Lady Gaga: Lady Gaga had been actively campaigning for Joe Biden. The singer urged supporters to "Vote like your children's lives depends on it, because they do" and performed several of her hit songs.

The singer captioned her Instagram post saying, ""@JoeBide @KamalaHarris and the American people, you just gave the world one of the greatest acts of kindness and bravery humanity has ever seen."

Jennifer Lopez: Jennifer Lopez shared a festive video of herself dancing on stage. "PRESIDENT BIDEN!!!!!!! VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS!"

Julia Louis-Dreyfus: The actress who played a former senator turned vice-president on the television show Veep tweeted, "'Madam Vice President'" is no longer a fictional character."

Kim Kardashian: The reality star shared a photo of Biden and Harris with a blue heart emoji.    —Washington Post
