History in favour of Saif ahead of BU clash

Published : 04 Mar 2021 08:32 PM

History is in favour of Saif Sporting Club (SSC) as they will take on the

Gopibagh outfit Bothers Union in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday.

SSC remain on the fifth position with 19 points from 11 outings while relegated Brothers Union are in twelfth position with five points from the same number of games.

Saif won six proceedings from 11 matches and in contrast the Gopibagh outfit managed only one so far. Their big win came over Bangladesh Police, when they thrashed them by 4-1 on Monday.

These two teams have met five times in the last several seasons. Out of their last five previous meetings, Saif won four encounters while BU managed to hold onto to a draw in one.

Saif are performing consistently in the current BPL season. Therefore, Zulfiker Mahmud Minto’s side are coming into this game as favourites.

If the Mymensingh outfit win the game, then they will garb 22 points and has a great opportunity to move into the fourth position, if Mohammedan Sporting Club lost to title aspirants Sheikh Jamal on next Sunday.

Brothers Coach Abdul Qaium Sentu said, ‘The defence will have to be at their best for Friday’s match if they’re to stop Saif from scoring.’ SSC scored 19 goals, conceded 16 while Sentu & co. netted 12 times but conceded 21 goals. So, it’s clear the defence of the Gopibagh outfit is very weak.

Meanwhile, Rahmatgonj will face relegated team Arambagh Krira Sangha, at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna at 3pm on the same day.

The old Dhaka outfit stands ninth position with 10 points from 11 matches and the Arambagh KS managed one point from the same number of outings.
