Highest single-day infections in 33 days

Bangladesh recorded the highest number of coronavirus infection cases since April 30 last bringing the total infected persons to 1,988 in a span of 24 hours.

The last recorded highest number of infected persons were 2,177 people. The total number of people infected so far reached 804,293, with the new cases.

Meanwhile, the country registered 34 more deaths in last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 12,694. 

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday. 

The current coronavirus infection rate stands at 9.81 percent while the total number of persons showing positive stands at 13.44 percent, added the official release. 

The number of Covid-19 fatalities has declined slightly while the number of new cases has surged significantly compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 41 deaths from coronavirus and 1,765 infections recorded on a single day on Tuesday.  

Of the 34 deceased, 21 were men, and 13 were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country. 

Among the victims, 11 were from the Dhaka division, five each from Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna, three each from Sylhet and Rangpur and two were from Barisal division.

A total of 20,259 samples were tested across the country till 8am on Wednesday.

At least 1,914 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the same period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,44,065 and the recovery rate stands at 92.51 percent.

As of Wednesday, 3,577,084 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 171,973,640 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
