Bangladesh registered 153 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Sunday, breaking the previous record of single-day death toll on July 1, when 143 people died of Covid-19. The total number of deaths has reached 15,065 with the latest figure.
With this, the country recorded over 100 single-day deaths for eight days in a row.
This is the highest number of deaths recorded in the span of a single day since March 8, when the first case of coronavirus was detected.
The country recorded 8,661 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 9,44,917 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.
The death rate now stands at 1.59 percent in the country, added the release.
The current positivity rate stands at 28.99 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 14.05 percent.
Among the 153 deceased, 96 were men, and 57 were women. Of the victims, 141 died in different hospitals across the country, nine at home and three died on the way to hospital.
51 of the deceased were from the Khulna division, 46 from Dhaka, 15 each from Chattogram and Rangpur, 12 from Rajshahi, nine from Mymensingh, and three from Barisal and two from Sylhet division.
A total of 29,879 samples were tested across the country till 8am Sunday.
During this period 4,698 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 8,33,897 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 88.25 percent.
As of Sunday, 3,989,224 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 184,337,753 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
Covid-19 deaths have been on an upward trend in the last few days, especially in the border districts.
