Highest new Covid-19 cases a day, 4 more die

Bangladesh reported four more deaths from COVID19 overnight and the highest number of 503 coronvairus positive cases in a single day on Friday. With that, the number of cases rose to 4689 and deaths 131, Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana announced in the regular virtual bulletin at 2.30pm.

They provide the report of 24 hours which is 8am of Thursday to 8am of Friday. During that period, they tested 3686 samples, highest in a day, and 270 up from the previous 24 hours. Four more persons were cured from the disease over the period, taking the total number of recovered patients to 112.

Bangladesh confirmed the first cases on March 8 and first death on March 18. The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11 after it emerged from China’s Wuhan city in December. Among the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said all are in their 50s and all victims are also from Dhaka.

She urged people to stay at home and maintain the government issued health rules as the number of cases is rising by the day. Muslim devotees have been urged to follow strictly the directives given by the Islamic Foundation while performing prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

The government earlier banned Iftar gatherings and restricted congregations in mosques. Bangladesh is witnessing a rapid rise of coronavirus cases since March 24 as 4,683 people tested positive for the virus during the time while the number was only 6 between March 8 and March 23.

The government so far tested 39,776 samples. According to the government, 21 labs are currently testing samples across Bangladesh. People have been asked to call - 16263; 333; 10655 and 01944333222 – to receive information and treatment facilities related to coronavirus.
