High treason case over disgracing Bangabandhu

Court orders PBI to probe the case against Hefazat, Khelafat top brass

Two sedition cases have been filed against Hefajat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari, acting secretary general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Maolana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and Islami Andalan Bangladesh nayeb-e-ameer Syed Fazlul Karim, reports BSS.

Aminul Islam Bulbul, president of Muktijuddho Monch, an organization of the descendants of the freedom fighters, filed the first case against the three with the court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satybrata Shikder on Monday. The court, after recording statement of the plaintiff, ordered deputy inspector general (DIJ) of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the case and submit the report within January 7.

The plaintiff in the case alleged that Mamunul at a function incapital’s BMA Bhaban on November 13 had threatened to lay seize at Shapla Chattar area, while Syed Fazlul Karim at a separate programme in Dholaikhal area, had called for jihad to stop construction of Bangabandhu’s sculpture, he even threatened to throw the sculpture in Buriganga.

Junayed Babunagari in another programme at Hathazari in Chattogram had also allegedly threatened repeating a Shapla Chattar blockade and tearing down the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Aminul Islam Bulbul in the case also alleged that the accused weretrying to incite communal hatred by using the religion and use this forgaining political miles.

Meanwhile, Bangabandhu Foundation executive president Advocate Abdul Malek filed another sedition case against acting secretary general of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Maolana Muhammad Mamunul Haque and the court after recording statement of the plaintiff, ordered deputy inspector general(DIJ) of PBI to probe the case and submit the report within January 7.

UNB adds: On Saturday, an under-construction sculpture of Bangabandhu was vandalized in Kushtia.

 Police on Sunday arrested four people, including two teachers of Kushtia Ibn Masud R Madrasah at Jugiya Paschimpara in the town in connection with the vandalism.

 Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Khandakar Mohiuddin said the arrestees smashed the sculpture instigated by the speeches of Faizul Karim and Mamunul Haque.

 Earlier in the day, the High Court asked the authorities concerned to take measures to ensure the security of all sculptures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country.

 On Sunday, a writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) seeking security of all sculptures including those of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Supreme Court lawyer Uttam Lahiri filed the writ petition.
