Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 17-man squad for their Asia Cup mission when the players of half of the team will make their debut in the biggest showcase of Asian cricket competition.

Among the 17 players in the squad, two of them will get into the international circuit for the first time and three players will play Asia Cup for the first time. But the team management and the selectors have high anticipation on them.

But the BCB called it a blend of young and experienced team and expected they will handle the every situation of a match, as they selected the players after a long discussion among them looking forward their future plan.

The chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu however detailed about the players why they choose them for the Asia Cup despite they are not experienced playing in such a big platform.

Nannu the former national star defending their selection, as a good one said that before to announce the squad, they did deep analysis with the team management and the head coach and even talked to team’s captain.

After long discussions with the relevant personalities, “We felt that the plan that the management gave us looking forward the future is very much satisfactory and realistic, as we followed that. The head coach has also chalked his plan, how he wants to run the team and we discussed with the captain as well.”

Nannu, who told that the management had a future plan and taking that in mind they choose the players.

But the chief selector replying to a query said, “This is the squad of Asia Cup, not World Cup. We had just discussed about Asia Cup with the team management as they gave a plan.”

Nannu when justifying the inclusion of the new faces, they called for the Asia Cup, spelt out the efficiency of Mohammed Naim, Sheikh Mahedi and Shamim Hossain Patowary.

Nannu said, “Shamim has done well in T20Is, he is a competent cricketer, which was considered to pick him.”

About Mohammed Naim, who played only four ODI and scored 10 runs in three innings and played 35 T20, scored 815 runs (highest 81 runs), Nannu said, “Naim though could not do well in the Emerging Asia Cup but performed well in the domestic competitions and he has also international experiences that’s why he has been given another chance.”

Mahedi, who was out of the field for a long time and could not play the BPL due to injury but was chosen taking in account his performance in the Emerging Asia Cup and expecting he will display something good in the Asia Cup – “He performed quite well in the Emerging Cup. He can show something in the Asia Cup.”

In all respects, now the time will say how their plan will click and how the players will translate the expectation of the team management and the selectors.
