High dependency on bank to create more liquidity crisis

The government’s borrowing from banks to finance the budget will create more liquidity crisis in the sector which already crippled over the last few years, says a top bank official.

“The existing system should be changed and there could be other options to avail the funds apart from banking system,” said Faruq Mainuddin Ahmed, managing director and chief executive officer of privately-run Trust Bank.

The MD also suggested looking for financing the budget with external funds.

Appreciating, the move to raise duty and tax on imported cars and other vehicles, Ahmed said as mobile phone has become an important part of daily life so tax on SIM cards is not ‘justified’.
