High Covid-19 infection rates very alarming

108 die, 5,869 infected

The death toll from Covid-19 has jumped to 108 till 8am yesterday on Friday. This brings the total number of deaths from coronavirus to 13,976 in the country.

This is the second highest number of deaths recorded from Covid-19 in a span of 24 hours in the country. It was 112 deaths last recorded on April 19.

The country recorded 5,869 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected with the virus to 878,804 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

The current rate of confirmed infection stands at 21.93 percent and the overall rate stands at 13.60 percent.

The number of fatalities has increased significantly compared to a day earlier though the number of infections has dropped a bit. The country recorded 81 deaths and 6,058 infections on Thursday.

Among the 108 deceased, 75 were men and 33 were women. Of the victims, 97 died in different hospitals of the country while 11 died at home. So far, 9,995 males and 3,981 females have died out of the total 13,976 deaths from the virus.

Reports also say that 27 of the deceased were from the Khulna division, 25 from Dhaka, 16 from Rajshahi, 23 from Chattogram, four from Mymensingh, three from Sylhet and 10 each from Rangpur division.

A total of 27,653 samples were tested across the country. 

During this period 2,776 Covid-19 patients have been recovered. A total of 797,559 people have recovered from the infection so far.

As of Friday, 3,917,924 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 180,847,411 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer. Meanwhile, 165,486,420 have recovered.
