Eventually the claims of the Hefazat-e-Islam’s Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque are proving completely false and fabricated.
When he was detained by a group of local people at a luxury resort at Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj with a young woman on Saturday, he claimed that the woman was his second wife.
He also claimed that his family members and even close friends were well-aware of his second marriage.
But several telephone conversations were leaked which proved that not only Mamunul’s first wife Amena Tayyaba was unware of her husband’s second marriage, but also the family members and relatives of Jannat Ara Jharna were ignorant about their so-called second marriage.
After he was released from the resort, his real wife contacted him over phone and enquired about the incident she watched on television involving him with a woman.
Mamunul told her that he had no other option but to claim the woman as his wife.
“I shall say you everything after coming home. She is the wife of Shahidul. The situation came to such a pass that I had no option but to claim her as my wife. If I did not tell it, they (local people) would do something very bad with me.”
The wife says, “Okay. Come home.”
Mamunul said, “Don’t take the matter in other way. Don’t think anything else. I have to say to other people what I claimed about the woman. If anybody asks you, you will say that you knew about the matter. You had permission in this regard.”
Another phone call record between the younger sister of Mamunul and his real wife got viral on social media.
The sister asked her sister-in-law, “Have you heard or seen anything?” She (wife) said she watched everything on the live video.
The sister said, “Don’t worry. We are with you. You will have no problem. If anybody phones you, you will say that you know about their marriage. Your mother-in-law married them as per your permission.”
She (wife) said to her, “Whether the incident is true.”
The sister of Mamunul said, “No, it’s not true. If we do not support him, Chhatra League men will harm him. If we support him, they cannot do any harm. If anybody asks, you will say the woman is the second wife of your husband.”
“Many asked us questions about their relation. We told that the woman is our brother’s second wife. You may be questioned and you will say so,” the sister said.
The wife agreed with her sister-in-law.
On Sunday’s press conference organized by Dhaka City Hefajat Islam, journalists asked when and where Mamunul had married Jannat Ara Jharna. But they also could not answer to the questions of the reporters.
Some journalists also requested the Hefajat leaders to show the copy of the marriage certificate of Mamunu’s second marriage. But till now Hefajat leaders failed to provide the marriage certificate.
According to the eyewitness, when the mobs asked Mamunul about the name and identity of his so-called second wife, he could not give proper answer.
He told that his wife’s name is AmenaTayyaba. He also could not tell the name of his second father- in- law.
But family sources said AmenaTayyaba is the actual first wife of the Hefajat leader.
Though the name of the woman was Jannat Ara Jharna, during the room booking, Mamunul wrote his wife’s name is Amena Tayyaba.
Thus he cunningly tried to hide the identity of the woman with whom he was detained on Saturday at Royal Resort at SonargaonUpazila under Narayanganj district.
At that time, Mamunul, joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, claimed that the woman is his second wife.
After Mamunul and the woman were caught in the resort, Mamunul told local people that he married the woman named AmenaTayebba two years ago in Khulna.
But the woman said that she is Jannat Ara Jharna of Alfadanga in Faridpur.
Meanwhile, there is a storm of discussion going on in Alfadanga Upazila about the scandal. The locals do not know any news of the second marriage.
According to Mamunul Haque, the woman was his second wife. Her name is AmenaTayyaba. He married the woman according to Islamic law. However, the woman introduced herself as Jannat Ara Jannat.
Former Gopalpur Union Awami League president Moniruzzaman Iku said Jannat Ara Jharna's father Waliar Rahman was a freedom fighter. He was the vice-president of Kamargram Ward No. 4 Awami League of the committee of my time. He was later made president. He is the president of the current committee.”
However, he was surprised to hear about the marriage and said, "I have never heard of the marriage again.”
According to Waliar Rahman, father of Jannat Ara Jharna, her daughter got married at the age of 11 to a man named Hafeez Shahidul Islam alias Shahidullah of Sonadanga area of Khulna district. The couple has two sons named Abdur Rahman and Tamim. The two children live in his father's house in Khulna.
